On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident.

The clockspring is a ribbon wire that is coiled up inside the steering column. This component is the subject of many discussions on these threads. Many times the steering wheel or column is disconnected and then rotated beyond the center position it is required to be in. This will cause the clockspring wire to break. The clockspring delivers current to all of the systems above it… the airbag, cruise control and horn. When it fails (and they do a lot) the wire breaks leaving one or all of the circuits open and inoperative. This will cause the airbag light to come on and shut down the airbag system. As long as that light is on, the airbags will NOT deploy, even in an accident. Sometimes it’s intermittent as the wire begins to break. Once it breaks completely, the ‘airbag’ light will illuminate.

Ford Ends Production at Michigan Truck Plant in Advance of Retooling
The Ford Motor Company ended truck production at its Michigan Truck Plant on November 26th in a bid to begin switching from building trucks to producing cars at the Wayne, Michigan plant. Ford opened the plant in 1957 as the Wayne Station Wagon Plant. During its more than 50 years of operation, it has produced F-Series trucks, the Ford Bronco, Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.
Beginning in early 2010 the truck plant will begin producing small, fuel efficient cars for the North American market. These cars are part of a Ford plan to increase production of some of the most fuel efficient cars available in the world while reducing its dependency on big trucks and sport/utility vehicles.
“Ford is committed to delivering a balanced product lineup for our consumers,” said Joe Hinrichs, group vice president, Global Manufacturing and Labor Affairs. “The conversion of Michigan Truck Plant represents another step in our transformation plan to meet market demand for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles.”
Production of the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator will now be moved to the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Ky., with production of the large SUVs slated to begin there in the second quarter of 2009.
“This great workforce produced quality vehicles up to the very last one they built,” said Mike Torolski, plant manager. “We now are focused on our next phase – converting the truck plant to a car plant to begin producing global C-car based vehicles in 2010.”
Michigan Truck is one of three truck and SUV plants in North America that will be converted to build small fuel-efficient compact and subcompact vehicles. The conversion of Cuautitlan (Mexico) Assembly, which currently produces F-Series pickups, is underway to prepare for production of the new Fiesta subcompact car in 2010. Louisville Assembly, home of the Ford Explorer mid-size SUV, is slated to start production of yet more unique small vehicles from the automakers global C-car platform the following year.
Currently, the Ford Motor Company is in talks with the US Congress in a bid to secure funding. The automaker says that they have enough cash on hand to see the company through 2009, but assistance from the federal government would help the company to gain the funds needed to complete its transition to building a fleet of smaller, much more fuel efficient cars.

Ford Contour: It Really Talks With Air
The Ford Contour is a commuter car that marketed & manufactured by Ford Motor Company in USA. It was the American version of Ford's CDW27 planet car plan that affected also in Contour's twin; the first generation Ford Mondeo manufactured & launched somewhere else around the world. Moreover, the Contour had a Mercury model generally known as Mercury Mystique. Both the versions were presented with 4 door sedan body look. The Mystique & Contour substituted earlier Ford's North American mid range versions, the Mercury Topaz & Ford Tempo & were categorized by EPA as squashed vehicles.
The Mystique & Contour were introduced in late 1994 as 1995 models & nonstop up till 2000, when they went out of manufacture with no a straight substitution in Ford's lineup in Canada & USA, whereas in Mexico, Ford restored the Contour with a nearby produced variation of the European Ford Mondeo.
The base engine of the Ford Contour was a 2,000 cc, that generates 125 HP at the rate of 5,500 revolutions per minute, SAE and 93 kW, 130 ft lb , 176 Nm at the rate of 4,000 revolutions per minute, 2.0-liter dual overhead cam 4 cylinder. Ford Contour was also launched with unleaded fuel & Multi point injection fuel system. The car has 55 liter fuel tank. Standard on the SE & optional on others: a 170 HP, 2.5 liter dual-cam V6, with 4 valves for every cylinder. Contours could have a standard 5 speed manual transmissions or optional 4 speed automatic transmission. Ford added a 195 horsepower model of the V6 in 1998. It lunched with the 5 speed manual transmission.
