Boat Plans
does anybody know how to make or have plans for a wooden boat block?
I need it just for show really it has to hold just about 50 lbs.
the rope has to go through it twice and it has to have two connection points one on top the other on the bottom.
Actually, 50 pounds is quite a bit of weight for a block & tackle.
The single sheave (or bearing) will be at the load end and have one end as a hook to attach to the load, and the other end to accept one end of the rope - which can be eye-spliced (preferred) or knotted.
The other block just needs to hang from something.
If you really want to build something quick & dirty, you can actually get two pieces (blocks) of wood (fir or oak is nice), about 4 inch square by 6 inches long, and get two hooks and an eye-bolt. This is similar to the days when there were no rollers to ease the rope run.
One block will have a hole drilled though it. Attach one hook and eye on opposite ends along the end grain.
The other block will have two holes drilled side-by-side with a hook on the end grain.
Make sure the holes are larger than the rope by quite a bit, and soften/round the ends of the holes to reduce rope chafing.
Run the really long rope, starting with the eyebolt, and run it to the second block before running it through the first. then you have your block and tackle. Greasing the rope with grease or oil helps.
No guarantees of it lifting 50 lbs, but you can try.
You can also email traditional boat building schools and museums for real sources and plans for modern wood blocks and such.

Plans for Travel $18.39 90° Degrees South's second full-length release, Plans for Travel, veers toward a more danceable music. The laid-back living room approach that provided the basis for the first album is still there, but somehow relegated to the back row. The very natural-sounding programmed drums made way for a retro drum machine. Analog synthesizers also occupy more space. Tempos have been slightly sped up on a few numbers too. As a result, Kev Fox' music has moved slightly away from the Labradford/Tortoise connection and closer to Stereolab -- "Supermarine S6" even evokes Kraftwerk's Autobahn. While The Barrier Silence and the EP A Distant Memory of Home wove a polar exploration theme, Plans for Travel focuses on historic means of transportation -- which probably explains the faster pace of this album. All track titles are taken from car, plane, and boat models. It makes good road music, but listeners who enjoyed the previous CDs will probably miss something. The melodic spark that ignited the stripped-down Barrier Silence is buried in the layers of sound. One fails to find the same charming naiveté. Even "Midnight, Blue Star" and "'A' Class on Exercise," the closest examples of 90° South's earlier sound, can't top "First Atlantic Flight." Free Boat Plans - Are Free Boat Plans Worthwhile?
It may not be possible for everyone to buy a boat off the shelf as not everyone can afford it. this is the reason many people decide to build their own boat. But where do you start?
Any builder knows that plans ar essential. They tell you want ot do, how to construct and the dimensions. Without a plan buildings would fall down, planes would not fly and boats would sink.
This is why boat plans are essential when it comes to building boats all by yourself. Yes, there are many affordable boat plans available on the net which can give you access to software and tools online to build the boat on your own.
If you are specially hard up for money and want to make it free you would look for free boat plans, which may bring up the question are free boat plan worthwhile at all?
There are quite a few online resources that are free and available for your asking without you having to spend a cent. But then, how good are these?
Some people who have tried out free boat plans have come back disappointed. These plans hardly come out just right and innumerable tries and plans later you would get tired as well as frustrated. The problem with the many free plans out there is that they often come out too big or too small for kids of different ages on account of which it is really questionable if you could rely on these. In addition to this, free boat plans also mean that you end up spending so much time and effort all for nothing that the free boat plan is anything but free.
