Chilton Manuals Motorcycles Why is a 1980 Honda CX500 so hard to find in motorcycle repair manuals?
I have the manual that came with my CX500, but in every single motorcycle manual other than that, including the Chilton motorcycle manual that I have, which lists every make and model of motorcycle available in the U.S., they don't make mention of the CX500, or any of the CX models for that matter. Is the CB500 close enough that I can use the maintenance instructions for it to work on my CX500?
Look for a Haynes manual for the CX500, the best manual this side of a factory service manual. They are not hard to find, you are just looking in the wrong places. The CX was very popular in Britain as a courier bike, and many are still running, so Haynes has sold a lot of manuals. If Chilton does not list the CX, then obviously they do not list every make and model available in the U.S.
The CB500 is a completely different bike, a transverse in-line four from the UJM mold. The CX500 is a 90-degree water-cooled v-twin with a longitudinal crank and an automotive-type dry clutch.
