Volume Two Engine Why is the capacity of the Mazda 13B Wankel engine said to be 1300cc ?
Mazda's 13B Wankel engine capacity is said to be 1300cc, but that is ascertained by measuring the swept volume of only one face of each rotor (two rotors of 650cc each = 1300cc)) You don't work out a piston engine's capacity by measuring just one cylinder, you measure the total volume of ALL cylinders (eg. 500cc X 4 cylinders = 2 litres).
So surely the capacity of a Mazda 13B should be total of ALL 6 sides of the two rotors, (650cc X 6 = 3.9 litres)? Is that right, or am I missing something fundamental?
You are completely correct... BUT...Remember that 1 full rotation of the rotors gives 3 revs of the eccentric shaft.
A piston engines volume is determined by swept volume for one crankshaft revolution. So Mazda does the same. 1/3 of 3.9 litres = 1.3 litres.

Engine utilizes many of the ingredients of Die Warzau's first two albums, but the band has evolved considerably since its debut, utilizing a more apparent dance approach with each successive release. Atmospheric, electronic sound collages, squealing guitars, and minimalist lyrics are at the forefront on tracks like "Grounded" and "Muck." "Grounded" is particularly strong, combining Nine Inch Nails-style chanting in its chorus with rap-flavored verses. But the song is unusually catchy, showing off Die Warzau's expertise in crafting pop hooks without sacrificing the heavy approach. "Heroin A.D." is also a keeper, with its inventive mixture of sax, piano, and throbbing bass. Engine's best track is the haunting "All Good Girls." The tune's chilling lyric contrasts beautifully with its quiet, repetitive groove, making "All Good Girls" sound like some sort of demented lullaby. Die Warzau's mixture of musical styles on Engine can take a listener by surprise -- track by track, it's difficult to predict what direction the band will take next. The song's subject matter is surprising in itself, revealing another side of a band that isn't shy about expressing its political views, but the straightforward, almost pop-friendly approach on "All Good Girls" makes much of Engine's genre-hopping seem excessive by comparison. Fortunately, Die Warzau possesses the sophistication and craftsmanship to make Engine a remarkably intelligent release in a genre not really known for its depth. You can find a really good review and comparison at the attached link. Be careful on gravel whilst riding any bike, especially the power sport types, as too much throttle on the loose rocks can really get away from you if you're not careful.

On three others, Burrell is featured with a swinging conga-accented combo that includes pianist Roger Kellaway, and Burrell goes solo on a transcribed excerpt from George Gershwin's "Prelude No. 2" for piano. What is special about this release is not so much the improved sound as the inclusion of a truckload of outtakes from the small-group sessions, which have the effect of doubling the length of the original album. All of them -- four takes each of the bluesy "Downstairs" and "Breadwinner" and three of "Terrace Theme" -- are worth hearing, for Burrell's invention rarely flags and what fluff there is does not upset the group's swinging rapport. The outtakes, though, are grouped by title at the end of the CD in a way that might induce fatigue; you could shuffle the order with your programming controls and get a more listenable lineup that way. ~ Richard S.
